The Dell P3WV4 is a Shared PERC8 RAID controller module built for the PowerEdge VRTX converged chassis. Unlike a conventional server RAID card, the Shared PERC8 presents virtual disks from the chassis shared storage subsystem to multiple server nodes simultaneously, allowing up to four blades to access a common pool of drives without an external SAN. It carries 1GB of cache with battery backup and supports hardware RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, and 60 over 6Gb/s SAS. VRTX deployments commonly run these in a redundant pair for fault tolerance.
