It is NVMe native: SAS and SATA support is gone entirely, and the card is built on Broadcom SAS5100 series silicon with a PCIe Gen5 x16 host interface driving up to 16 NVMe drives per controller. Cache protection moves from a battery to a supercapacitor. Front integration keeps rear PCIe slots free for accelerators, which is why this controller shows up in AI and analytics builds on 17th generation PowerEdge servers rather than general purpose fleets.

Compatible part numbers: 2PG59, 02PG59. The leading zero form is the same part; Dell prints both conventions.
